St Mary's Church are looking to recruit a passionate and creative Children's Worker to join their vibrant Children, Youth & Families Team.
Job Title: Children's Worker
Contract: Fixed-term for an initial period of three years
Hours: 16 hours per week. All staff receive 5 weeks' annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays.
Salary: £11,689 (£27,030 FTE)
Location: The core hours of this role are predominantly based in our church office with the option to work some hours from home.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overseeing, leading and developing the Sunday morning children’s ministry at the
- 9.30am service, under the direction of the Children, Youth and Families Director.
- Writing and preparing content and resources for children’s groups and activities.
- Shared responsibility of Recruitment of volunteers in accordance with our Safer Recruitment Practices.
- Equipping, training and supporting the Junior Church volunteer Team.
- Managing Junior Church rotas and writing session plans.
- Planning and delivering regular assemblies in local Primary Schools, and leading adhoc workshops and Church visits
- Helping to run occasional community outreach and church events, such as the Light Party, missional schools week, family events
- Taking pastoral and spiritual care of children.
- Building relationships with children and their families.
- Participate in weekly staff devotions and staff team meetings.
- Ensuring that all children‘s groups adhere to the CofE Parish Safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Receiving, responding and reporting safeguarding issues
- Striving to make disciples who are rooted in scripture and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
- Additional tasks as required.
The children’s work and youth work are seen as one team, working alongside and supporting each other in their collective ministry. On occasion the Children’s Worker may be required to support the youth activities and, therefore, the CYF Ministry as a whole.
Alongside these core responsibilities, there’s freedom to bring your own creativity and personality to the role and even to explore new ideas if you wish, with no pressure to expand beyond what’s realistic in a part‑time position.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Essential
- A heart for children to connect with God and grow in faith
- Experience with working with children (age 4-12)
- An ability to differentiate and tailor sessions appropriately to accommodate a variety of ages, needs and cultural backgrounds
- Comfortable leading up front
- Strong communicator
- Able to work independently and to work as part of the broader staff ministry team
- Able to motivate and inspire a team of volunteers
- Biblically grounded, prayerful and have an active faith
- Able to work in a Spirit led ministry
- A desire to develop links between church, schools and families
- A willingness to continue learning and develop necessary skills
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Competent in basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office, SharePoint,
- Teams and Outlook, and a willingness to learn the use of new software
- In agreement with the theology and vision of St Mary Magdalene Church
- In agreement with the vision of the children, youth and families work which is shaped by the Church of England’s Growing Faith vision (www.growingfaithconnections.org)
Desirable
- Relevant qualification for working with children or young people (e.g Christian children or youth work, early years, teaching profession)
- Experience in managing volunteers
- Good understanding of child safeguarding issues
- Have familiarity with the Anglican Church
