Job Description

Who we are:

We are a friendly, growing Baptist church. We are a network of scattered microchurches that gathers for worship in a variety of places and ways, but we are one church in values, vision and structure.

We aim to be one church with many beacons growing disciples. Our core values are: Loving People, Bible Saturated, Courageous in Mission and Spirit Dependent.

In all our expressions of church we seek to live out these core values. We are also a community that is creative, open to trying new things, and big on empowering everyone in our church to play a significant role in growing disciples both inside and outside the church.

Who you are:

You are a fully committed follower of Jesus who feels a passion and calling to children and youth with a strong commitment to mission and evangelism.

You will have experience of working amongst children and/or young people and their families and an understanding of the needs and challenges of this group.

You thrive serving as part of a team and love equipping and empowering others to see them released in their gifting as part of this vital ministry.

Above all you come with a heart to see children and young people transformed by Jesus, believing that all people, regardless of age, can be filled by the Holy Spirit and can serve as part of his body.

The Role

Goals:

  1. Families are drawn to join any of Beacon’s microchurches or mission activities because there is a quality offering for children and young people.
  1. Children and young people are growing in their faith/come to faith as a result of belonging to groups where they find acceptance and love and are taught Christian values and truths at a level that matches their age and learning style.

Key tasks:

To lead the children’s and youth ministry of Beacon Church both inside and outside the church aligned with our vision and values.

Within our scattered approach to church the children and youth worker would work across all of our microchurches and missions to help facilitate and empower greater discipleship of the children and young people inside and outside the church.

This person would oversee training and developing ministry volunteers, lead and/or support missional groups such as: Ignite Youth Group, Ignite Jr Youth, First Fridays, Messy Church, Stay & Play, Holiday Club, as well as the possibility of summer youth camps or mission trips. Some of these groups will be led out of the Marston Grange Beacon Church House to further our relationships on that estate. Other groups may be organised within the church building on Sandon Road to further the relationships and mission to the estate where the church is located. This person would seek to build relationships with families, particularly seeking to strengthen ties with families not yet a part of the church.

This person would also provide updated curriculum for children’s church across our services and other Bible study type materials as needed for various groups.

This person would work with the leaders of our microchurch teams or other ministry teams to provide support, content, ideas and further development of mission and discipleship to children and young people.
