ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser who is passionate about lives being transformed and the good news of Jesus being shared. The role will involve self-motivated working communicating Abernethy’s mission on grant applications, and working with the Abernethy leadership team to formulate a long-term fundraising strategy. Work can be remote, although occasional trips to one of our residential centres will be necessary.

Abernethy is a vibrant ministry that has been combining adventurous outdoor experiences with Christian witness for over 50 years. We are spread over three locations in the wild corners of Scotland. Transformation is at the heart of Abernethy and we exist to see people gain confidence and grow into who God made them to be, whether that is schools, church groups or organisations meeting to retreat.

The team at Abernethy are passionate about the outdoors, community, hospitality and witness. We are motivated by our belief in a good and generous God who created an incredible natural world which, through its very existence, shouts His praise. KEY ROLES

  • Design and implement a fundraising strategy based on recent consultancy work.
  • Work closely with the Abernethy Leadership Team to guide the fundraising strategy.
  • Build relationships and engagement with donors and supporters.
  • Research, deliver and maintain a stream of grant applications.
  • Build strong relationships with trusts and foundations through regular updates and appropriate contact.
  • Input into marketing strategies, including communications with donors and other supporters.
  • Tell the Story of how Abernethy has been transforming lives for over 50 years.
  • Communicate the impact Abernethy has in the lives of staff, volunteers and guests through the gospel, Christian faith, discipleship, etc.
  • Adopt the Christian ethos of Abernethy, derived from the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith, in all your life and work.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of fundraising.
  • Able to think strategically as well as looking ahead to the future.
  • Good at working within a team and good communication skills.
  • Great organisational skills.
  • Experience writing grant applications.
  • Because of the importance of prayer for our organisation and communicating the Christian Ethos of Abernethy with supporters and in marketing, it is a genuine occupational requirement that the holder of this post is a practising Christian whose lifestyle is consistent with the values and doctrine of the Christian faith. 
  • As part of our commitment to safeguarding, the successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.
