Youth Pioneer Worker

Threshold is looking to develop its work with young people (11-18 year olds) who live in the villages around Lincoln. We are keen to appoint a Youth Pioneer Worker who can relate well to young people and who is able to create environments where people can naturally explore, question, and grow in faith in Jesus.

This job can be full-time or part-time depending on the availability of the right candidate.

Please note, we are not registered to sponsor visas, unfortunately.

Background to Threshold

Threshold is a medium-sized rural church with a passion to do life in ways that make it easy for people to explore faith. We meet most Sunday’s at Welton Village Hall and are developing small Christian Communities in the surrounding villages. These small communities are an important aspect of the way we relate to others across the villages. As such, we are keen for the Youth Pioneer Worker to be able to think ‘beyond Sunday morning gatherings’.

The role

We are looking for a creative individual with a passion to see young people (11-18 years old) grow in faith in Jesus. The role gives lots of space for the post-holder to bring their unique gifts and skills, working towards the following key areas:

  1. Sunday Gatherings

Threshold gathers at Welton Village Hall for worship. On some occasions young people go out to their own space, while on other occasions the gatherings are designed for all ages. We would like the Youth Pioneer Worker to gather and oversee a team of volunteers to work with young people who attend our Sunday gatherings.

  1. Working with the local Secondary School and/or its school community

Over the last 30 years Threshold has worked with the local Secondary School in pioneering and supporting various Christian initiatives such as lunchtime clubs, prayer sessions, music events, and – more recently – an after-school drop-in cafe for students. We have also partnered with the Message Trust and continue to support their work. We are keen for the Youth Pioneer Worker to develop our relationship with the school and explore ways in which we can support those wishing to explore faith further. We would also like the Youth Pioneer Worker to explore fresh ways to engage with young people outside of school.

  1. Working with our small Christian Communities

Threshold has small Christian communities developing in several villages around Lincoln, including Nettleham, Scothern, Stainton-by-Langworth, Ingham, Faldingworth, Welton, and Dunholme. We would like the Youth Pioneer Worker to help and inspire these communities to engage with young people in their areas.

  1. Working with the leadership team and wider church network

In this role you will work closely with the leadership team, joining them in their monthly evening prayer and planning meetings. You will also be encouraged to be part of wider gatherings such as the Ground Level leaders conference, Ground Level monthly equipping/prayer meetings, and related youth/family events and conferences.

Main duties

  • To develop and lead a team that is passionate about equipping and encourage young people who are part of Threshold.
  • To develop relationships with the local Secondary School, taking a posture of listening and serving.
  • To help and inspire our small Christian communities to engage with young people.
  • To explore fresh and creative ways of engaging with young people outside of school time who wish to explore faith further.

Other duties

  • To identify and encourage new leaders/helpers to join the various teams as the work grows and develops
  • To understand and implement best practice in youth work, including Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies and procedures and model good practice to others.
  • To take a full and active part in the life of Threshold including staff and leadership team meetings.
  • Any other duties related to the role, which may from time to time be reasonably required.

Person specification

  • A Christian who is passionate about Jesus and sharing their relationship with him.
  • A person who understands youth culture and is passionate about youth discipleship.
  • Experience of working with young people and families in a church context, whether paid or voluntary.
  • A prayerful person…someone who believes in the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit and who wants to help others pray and move in gifts of the Spirit in everyday life.
  • Passionate about creativity and using imagination to think outside the box.
  • Able to work ecumenically.
  • Competent IT user who is able to use modern social media appropriately.
  • Good organisational, time management and administrative skills.
