Role summary:
Responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining successful long-term relationships with primary level Trusts/Foundations and Individual Major Donors (IMD) to secure both major grants/gifts and build the commitment of supporters to advocate for the benefit of MAF among their own networks. This role will operate predominantly within Scotland and Northern Ireland, though some reach into far north of England may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Responsibility:
- To undertake responsibility for a portfolio of high-value relationships and to deliver at the income at agreed annual targets in the first year with an expectation this will rise year on year as agreed with your line manager.
- Management Responsibility:
- To be one of the first points of contact internally for Trusts/Foundations and IMD related queries.
- To input to and work in accordance with the Major Giving team strategic plan and existing Major Giving procedures, practices and standards.
- Relationship Responsibility:
- To actively develop and manage excellent relationships with an agreed portfolio of Trusts/Foundations and IMD capable of donating a minimum of £25,000 or more as a single gift each year.
- To develop and implement professionally written action plans which will engage, inform and nurture prospects and donors to deliver gifts at the agreed level.
- Undertake timely administration to capture and record knowledge of supporters within the customer relationship management database. Work with the organisation’s systems team to utilise this information to enhance applications and giving levels.
- To pro-actively develop relationships with key stakeholders within the MAF organisation(s).
- Present MAF proposals alone or with others, (member of the operational field team, CEO etc), to prospects and donors.
- Participate in events to develop relationships with donors, inviting individuals from portfolios where appropriate
- Co-ordinate visits to MAF overseas operations where appropriate and agreed with the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team Leader, to introduce these donors directly to the work of MAF.
- Information Responsibility:
- Present detailed, accurate and high-quality fundraising proposals to prospects and donors, ensuring any specific deadlines or funding windows are complied with.
- Ensure that donors are thanked appropriately for their gifts with timely and appropriate reports, letters and phone call.
- Provide timely ‘report backs’ that are appropriate/agreed with each donor, to evidence effective use of funding and to encourage the opportunity to make further applications based on good stewardship and achievement of agreed outcomes.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge, and the funding priority, of projects available for funding by Trusts/Foundations supporters and prospects.
- Actively seeking to grow the Trusts/Foundations portfolio and income through the use of research
- Attending regular appropriate training courses, external forums and networks to ensure continuous personal development
- Major Donor team Responsibility (practice/ procedures/training)
- To implement and use agreed Major Giving Programme practices and procedures.
- To keep abreast of data protection and fundraising regulation changes to ensure compliance in all areas of major fundraising work.
- To undergo specific training to enhance your knowledge as agreed with the Philanthropy & Major Gifts Team Leader.
- To provide timely information for Philanthropy & Major Gifts month end reports.
- To represent the Major Giving team as required within MAF.
- CRM Database Responsibility
- To provide support to the Partnership Executive, who will be the team’s CRM database lead
- To maintain a thorough working understanding of MAF UK’s CRM system in order to answer specific team queries
- To support the teams day-to-day CRM activities including producing reports, importing data, adding activities, amending details and any other relevant tasks
- To help ensure the teams portfolio of supporters remains accurately up-to-date and compliant with data protection regulations.
- To work with MAF UK’s CRM manager to identify problems and make changes to the CRM system that better suit the needs of the team
Dimension and Limits of Authority:
- Responsible for adherence to standards and compliance legislation and good practice principles in all areas.
- Comply with MAF UK financial policies and procedures
- Decision making within agreed parameters.
- Line management responsibility for the Research & Data Executive
Tasks common to all staff:
- Role modelling of organisational values and beliefs - to contribute to the shared spiritual life of the MAF UK team as a unique Christian charity. This will include attendance and participation in corporate times of biblical reflection and corporate prayer meetings

Brief summary of Terms and Conditions
Job Title: Relationship Manager
Location: MAF UK, Challenge House, 29 Canal St, Glasgow G4 0AD
Working Hours: Office open officially from 9.00 to 5.30pm. Hours to be agreed according to contract and flexible working policy
(For external supporters the office is open from 09:00 to 17:00 including Friday when cover should be provided by the relevant teams.)
Terms:
- At least 36 hours per week, with 1 hour for lunch daily unpaid. Hours should be agreed with line manager.
- Flexibility will be required for working additional hours and travel to meet business needs or for travel or meetings etc. on weekends.
- Annual leave entitlement of 22 days per year and 8 paid public holidays per year.
- Non-contributory pension scheme (10%) salary according to contractual agreement for fixed term staff.
Probationary and notice period
- 6-month probation period with a 3-month review
- 3-month notice period
Salary
- £42,000 dependent on experience
