About Us
The Good Book Company is a rapidly growing Reformed evangelical publisher with offices in London and Charlotte, North Carolina, and a team of 50. We publish 50 titles a year for adults and children which open up the Bible to encourage and enable Christians to love Jesus, serve their church and reach out with the gospel. We’re passionate about seeing God’s word work in people’s lives and we’re excited about the part our publishing can play to make that happen.
We’re looking for a Head of Editorial to lead the day-to-day running of our Editorial team and continue to drive growth and excellence. This is a vital leadership role, ideal for someone with a love of content and leading teams—someone who thrives on delivering Christ-centred books on time and to a high standard.
About the Role
As Head of Editorial, you’ll be a key part of our ministry. You will line-manage our Editorial team, oversee schedules and workflows, and edit 8–10 titles per year yourself. You’ll also feed into and help deliver our editorial strategy, help shape our new-title list, assign projects to editors, and ensure each title moves smoothly from acquisition through editing, design, and production. You’ll work closely with the Publisher to ensure that our titles are biblical, relevant and accessible and that our authors enjoy working with us.
Dependent on experience and expertise, the role has scope to include working on commissioning new titles and inputting at Senior Leadership team level.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership
- You’ll lead the Editorial team, directly managing four senior editors
- You’ll be responsible for assigning projects and then provide feedback and support to editors across all stages, ensuring clarity, quality and collaboration
- You’ll carry your own editorial list of 8–10 titles annually, working with authors to develop manuscripts to the highest quality
- You’ll uphold our editorial standards and theological distinctives across the whole list
Workflow and Operations
- You’ll be responsible for keeping books on schedule, overseeing progress from manuscript through to final files and liaising closely with our Design, Production and Marketing teams
- You’ll troubleshoot bottlenecks, flag risks, and keep communication flowing
Strategic Contribution
- You will have a crucial role to play in shaping our future list, which will include leading the Editorial team as they discuss potential projects, and which may include your own proactive acquisitions role
- You’ll represent editorial at senior management level
About You
- You have a track record of excellence in an editorial role at a publisher
- You’ve led or helped run a team and have experience of managing people
- You are able to handle theological questions with precision, clarity and care, in line with TGBC’s Statement of Faith
- You are excited about serving the evangelical church with biblical, relevant and accessible resources
- You’re organised, calm under pressure, and able to balance taking responsibility with effective delegation
- You’re an encourager, a problem-solver, and someone whom people trust
- Experience in a like-minded Christian publisher is a bonus, but not essential
