We are seeking a Senior Verger who will work with our Head Verger, deputising in their absence, in order to ensure that:

the Cathedral is presented in the very best way at all times for worshippers, visitors and the public in order to provide a safe and welcoming environment;
Cathedral services run efficiently;
the Vergers Team is managed effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are adaptable, skilled at communicating with a variety of visitors, and who are able to participate in services and all aspects of Cathedral life.

Salary

£32,500.00 pa

The annual salary is £32,500 but Vergers work a 40 hour week on a 5 day rota which will include regular weekend, and some evening, working.

The Cathedral is usually open between 7.00am and 6.45pm and the Vergers’ team is responsible for its opening and closing.

The successful applicant will also be required to be on-call for two evenings per week, this is paid separately and in addition to the annual salary, but they should live within 15 minutes of the Cathedral to enable a prompt response.
