Overview

We’re looking for a passionate, skilled, and team-oriented Sound Engineer to join the Production Team at Birmingham City Church (BCC). This is a part-time role focused on live sound engineering during services and rehearsals, with added responsibility for training volunteers and maintaining equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • FOH (Front of House) Mixing for Sunday services and events, including weekly setup, soundcheck, and operation.
  • Livestream Audio: Support and input into the secondary mix for livestream broadcast output (typically operated by volunteers).
  • Volunteer Development: Train and equip the volunteer sound team; help raise the standard across FOH and broadcast mixes.
  • System Care: Maintain equipment and sound infrastructure; assist with minor repairs, updates, and installations.
  • Planning & Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Worship and Production Manager to support all technical aspects of worship services and events.

Working Hours (14 per week)

  • Thursday evenings (5 hours) – Installation, repair, or programming work followed by worship band rehearsal.
  • Sunday mornings (6 hours) – Setup, soundcheck, and live mix for the main worship service.
  • Sunday evenings (monthly, 3 hours) – Monthly Worship Night.
  • Occasional extra events by request and agreement.

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong live mixing experience, ideally in a church or live music setting
  • Working knowledge of Allen & Heath SQ series desks (required)
  • A good ear for detail, with a proactive and reliable approach to technical challenges
  • Experience leading or training others, particularly volunteers
  • A calm, collaborative attitude with a passion for building and supporting teams
  • Willingness to grow and help others grow in skill and confidence

Personal Qualities

  • A Christian faith and heart for the local church is strongly preferred
  • Alternatively, a candidate aligned with BCC’s values and team culture will be considered
  • Warm, humble, and servant-hearted
  • Committed to excellence in worship and production
