Bakers & Kitchen Staff

Our kitchen team spends every day supplying the crew, day crew, hospital, HOPE Centre, and outpatient families with the food they need to keep on going! We couldn't do what we do without healthy and delicious meals on board. Many patients travel hours in the early morning for surgery onboard our ships. A lunchtime sandwich goes far towards putting anxious and tired stomachs to rest.

The Kitchen Staff and Baker volunteer positions, part of the Food Services Department, will be located on the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, the world's largest charity hospital ships. The preferred minimum commitment for these roles is three months. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On-Boarding Programme.

Qualifications/experience:

  • Previous cooking experience is preferred in a cafeteria or restaurant setting
  • Certificate in Food Hygiene preferred
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs./14 kg. regularly and have endurance for physical labour activities including bending, kneeling, and walking up and down stairs
  • Previous baking experience required for the Baker
