Chief Operating Officer

This is a great missional opportunity for someone who loves God, loves people and is skilled with business leadership. This role will see the COO lead the senior management team at Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield. The right person will be someone with a passion to bring change to seriously disadvantaged communities not just in Anfield but across the city; one with creative energy and heaven’s inspiration who wants to make a lasting difference.
The COO will work with the board of trustees and his team to maintain the mission to demonstrate the love of Christ to local communities through transformational programmes that engage with over 16,000 people every year. Beneficiaries include poor families, hundreds of young people, asylum seekers, refugees, vulnerable elderly and other disadvantaged groups.
The COO will lead the drive to generate essential income to maintain financial sustainability and increase the contribution of Liverpool Lighthouse to shaping of society, raising its public profile. The right person will work with the Board to develop our 6-acre wooded parkland in Knotty Ash so it would be used as a community enhancing and cohesive designation for the community of Anfield and throughout Liverpool.
Established 20 years ago, Liverpool Lighthouse Ltd is one of the charities set up by Love & Joy Ministries International, along with Harmonize Academy and Bright Park Trust. Our mission is to demonstrate the unconditional love of God through what we do to those most challenged in communities across Liverpool.
We work in our communities to reduce isolation, improve life & employability skills as well as create and improve social cohesion. Each year we make in-depth difference to 850 lives, engaging a further 15,000 through performances in our venue. Over the 20 years we have developed successful, high impact programmes that improve health and well-being for the over 60s, provide positive diversionary activities for young people that would otherwise be on street corners perpetrating crimes and antisocial behaviour, programmes that up-skill unemployed adults and migrants and support poor families to better manage their children, household budgets and well-being. We have developed a reputation for powerful in-house and outreach work that transforms lives.
The Liverpool Lighthouse building is a former art-deco style cinema with a 450-seater fully-equipped auditorium together with many other training or leisure spaces that can be used for activities or for external hire. In recent months the building has undergone major renovation works to make it even more attractive and functional.
The board is led and supported by Pastor Dr Tani Omideyi who also chairs the national board of the Evangelical Alliance UK.
The COO reports directly to the Chair of the Board of Liverpool Lighthouse and will have four
I. Work with the Board to provide missional strategic direction for the organisation in line with its Christian Ethos
II. Oversee the senior management team to deliver community transformation projects and to demonstrate compliance with all internal and external requirements
III. Lead the income generating team to operate the charity sustainably
IV. Engage with people of influence in the city of Liverpool and beyond – politicians, local government, businesses, media, charities and churches to contribute to shaping of society and raising the profile of Liverpool Lighthouse
The nature of this post with its requirement to help shape the missional strategic direction of the organisation and drive its implementation requires the COO to be a practising and committed Christian. This is a Genuine Occupational Requirement in line with schedule 9 of the Equalities Act 2010.
Other specifications include:
Educated to degree level in a related field e.g. Marketing, Business Studies or similar
Proven success in delivering growth targets in a business environment
Previous experience in managing a team
Unique combination of a dreamer and implementer
Able to write convincing business proposals
Energetic, self-motivated and with an engaging, enthusiastic and persuasive personality
Willing to relocate to Liverpool (if outside) and a car owner with full driving license
