Youth & Children's Pastor

Purpose of Job

1. To be responsible for overseeing our work among children and young people aged 0-18 years

2. To help children and young people aged 0-18 years to develop in their faith and Christian spirituality

3. To provide pastoral care and support for young people

4. To build on and develop links with parents, local organisations, church groups, youth and children’s workers, statutory bodies and funders

5. To reach out to children and young people in the local community and engage them with the gospel

 

Key Duties

1. Ensure the wider Church vision is implemented in the context of youth and children’s work. Leading a Youth and Children's action group to review and implement the vision as a team

2. Relating to children and young people with different needs within the church and across the wider community, explaining the Christian faith in ways that encourage, interest and stimulate growth

3. Planning, leading and organising a varied programme throughout the week to meet the spiritual and social needs of children and young people as well as special one-off events. This will involve some evenings, weekends and residential trips

4. Inspiring and encouraging children and young people in their spiritual lives and equipping them for outreach to their peers

5. Preparing children and young people to deal with transition, within the church and into the wider world

6. Encouraging children and young people to belong and find a place of service in the life of the Church 

7. Develop an online ministry to engage children and young people

8. Liaising with families / carers of children and young people as and when necessary

9. To be a builder and equipper of others; leading, supporting and equipping the existing volunteer team and recruiting additional team members

10. Keeping the Lead Pastor fully informed of ongoing and emerging issues, engaging in regular line management meetings and team ministry meetings

11. Ensuring that the church’s policies are observed, undergoing further training if required (with particular reference to safeguarding)
