Operations Manager

Salary/ Package:

£30,000.00 - £37,500.00 P/A

10% annual bonus (discretionary)

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Assistance with Continuing Professional Development

Travel £ 0.45 per mile (HMRC rate)

Contribution to relocation available by negotiation

Reporting to:

Lead Minister and church leadership

Position Outline:

Our Client is not looking for a conventional operations manager but someone who carries the same passion and vision they do and can see that managing the operations of the church is far more than just managing businesses. It is an opportunity for someone to release their creative and entrepreneurial skills to create employment and release funds for the extension of God’s Kingdom.


To be an invested member both in the church and on the Senior Management Team who can both encourage and challenge the other team members adding value to what is already established. You would also be expected to diversify the revenue streams we already have.

Main tasks:

People – To manage managers, improve staff training, manage change, performance management 

Operations - To have responsibility for day to day management of the current revenue streams, 

Finance – To work with the finance team to create budgets  and be able to deliver operations within the confines of the budget

Management Team - To define the resources (human, material and financial) required to operate effectively and to secure funds to provide them, including developing relationships with stakeholders and supporters;

Entrepreneurial Vision - to use your entrepreneurial skills to identify opportunities that may present themselves

Person Specification:

Candidates will be expected to show evidence of the following experience, skills, capabilities and aptitudes:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A substantial personal record of achievement in operational management where there have been multiple income streams and in which an understanding of the care sector and/or learning disabilities would be advantageous.
  • Experience of managing managers;
  • Excellent interpersonal, ambassadorial and engagement skills and values required to build and sustain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • A record of successful leadership through periods of rapid growth and/or organisational change;
  • Excellent self management and organisation skills;
  • The ability to prepare and manage budgets and to understand fiscal matters;
  • Experience of staff management including personal development and objective setting and managing accountability; the capacity to drive results through effective team and individual performance;
  • Experience of programme development, applications to funders and management of grants and their complexities.
  • An understanding, and preferably direct experience, of managing volunteers and the volunteering experience;
  • Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills, including experience and confidence in public speaking, report-writing;
  • The ability to work in a self-directed and self-managed manner and to develop good working relationships with stakeholders and partners;
  • Computer and technology literacy, including word and data processing, spreadsheet and communication packages (including Skype) and familiarity with social networking facilities;

Genuine Occupational Requirement:

As our client is a Church, and due to the nature of the role and organisation there is an Occupational Requirement in line with the Equality Act 2010 for the post-holder to be a practising and committed Christian, living their life by Christian values and regularly attends the church.
