Senior Lecturer/Academic Researcher in Islamic Studies

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated individual to take on the role of Senior Lecturer/Academic Researcher in Islamic Studies. What will you be doing:

The successful candidate will teach and deliver course modules, whilst taking the lead on developing course content, as well as supervise the progress of research students. This involves providing advisory services, including pastoral support to students and assisting the recruitment and selection of students. You will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum design and development, whilst participating in subject reviews, validation and re-validation processes. Therefore, this will require you to proactively research and increase your knowledge of subject matters, providing ongoing engagement with current studies and developments in the subject area. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategic and academic plans.

What will you need:

  • Hold a relevant PhD (or be near completion).
  • Demonstrate a proven track record in teaching and research in the subject.
  • Must have knowledge of biblical studies at graduate level education or equivalent.
  • A good eye for detail, high standards of accuracy, along with excellent communication skills.
  • You will need to be flexible, plan ahead, keep to deadlines, and ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage working time well.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by email.
  • Ability to manage and support students from many different countries, cultures and denominations is fundamental to this role.
  • Excellent organisational skills and proven administration experience.
  • Excellent IT skills, including competency of standard word processing programmes are essential such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Databases etc.
  • Experience of the Higher Education sector.
  • Working knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments.
  • Ability to represent Barnabas Fund in a professional and calm manner.
  • A good knowledge of Christian theology, current affairs, geopolitical issues and world religions would be an advantage.

Salary is dependent on skills and experience.

You will be working within our Academic Department from our international office in Pewsey, Wiltshire. This is an office-based role.
